“Spikenard is also known as Nardostachys jatamansi.It is a flowering plant of the valerian family that grows in the Himalayas. It is a source of a type of intensely aromatic amber-colored essential oil, spikenard. The oil has, since ancient times, been used as a perfume, as a traditional medicine, and in religious ceremonies.It is commonly known as Indian Valerian, Muskbala, Sugandhbala (Hindi) and Tagar (Sanskrit). Indian valerian is a wild herb distributed in subtropical and temperate Himalaya up to an altitude of 3000 meters and between 1500 to 1800 meters in Khasi and Jaintia hills.It is traditionally used in alternative medicine for treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.Its cooling and calming properties support healthy immune responses. They are helpful against external stressors affecting the mind. As a result, it encourages a balanced state of mind and healthy cognitive activities. Additionally, its cold potency promotes a regular and natural sleep cycle.
