Soapnut/Sapindus trifoliatus Linn, commonly known as Reetha, is a deciduous tree belonging to the family Sapindaceae. It is an important species both economically and medicinally, widely recognized for its saponin-rich fruits which are used as a natural detergent and soap. The tree is native to warm temperate to tropical regions and is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world.The fruits of Sapindus trifoliatus have been traditionally used by Unani physicians for cleaning hair, and they are also an ingredient in various herbal formulations and shampoos. The tree is found mainly along the coast of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and South India. It is also cultivated for ornamental purposes and planted along streets.
